Parita Doshi manages the Account Management team at a social enterprise called Oomph! Wellness whose mission is to improve the quality of life of older people. She used to work in Financial services but changed career as she wanted to do something she believed in.
My journey with Onpartu started...
My journey with Onpartu began over 3 years ago when Paulina first started working on the idea. We had met during a similar programme aimed at supporting people to change careers. The programme had been so valuable in terms of exposing us to what other career options there are and exploring what we wanted to do, as well as the benefits of training, mentoring, networking and having a peer support community. I was passionate about helping others find careers that were meaningful to them too.
Getting involved meant...
I feel really strongly that we are all capable of finding and doing well in jobs that we are interested in. Just because a country is foreign to us and we don’t know best how to navigate it, this shouldn’t make us lose confidence and stop us from being able to achieve our potential. That’s why I am passionate about Onpartu which helps get over some of those barriers and provides opportunities which talented women can grab with both hands and use as a springboard for improving their life.
My Onpartu role is... I have been involved as part of the team who designs the programme and have worked since the start to try and learn as much as we can and develop the programme to improve it even more for the next cohort. Part of this includes carefully understanding the feedback from the Onpartners and measuring to what extent the programme has had a positive impact on them. I have also delivered some of the face-to-face training sessions and have been fortunate enough to be there during some of the incredible sessions run by other experts in the field.
In my day job, I am responsible for ...
My day job is based around working in partnership with our clients to ensure that as a team we deliver what we promise. This includes overseeing the running of training courses, providing ongoing support, measuring the impact that we are having on the older people we aim to benefit and reporting this back to our clients.
Volunteering with Onpartu provides...
To volunteer at Onpartu I think you need to passionately believe that everyone has a right to, and can, achieve their potential with hard work, open-mindedness and support. This mindset allows you to support the Onpartners, but also realise that you can learn from them too. The team at Onpartu is what makes it so special as well - they are so dedicated to bringing a professional yet personal approach and will go completely out of their way to ensure the ladies have the best experience possible.
My biggest learning so far...
My biggest learning is how much a strong peer group can support each other to do well. Many of the jobs and opportunities have come out of Onpartners helping each other, which has been wonderful. Personally, I find the Onpartners to be inspirational and courageous. It is an absolute pleasure to be surrounded by others who are doing so much on the side of their day job to make a positive change in their life. Being involved during training, I have learned from them since everyone offers a different perspective and experience. I feel honoured to be a part of it.
My most memorable Onpartu moment...
In our first year I ran the final training session with the Onpartners which was reflective over the previous months. It was a very special moment where we all realised how far we’ve come both individually and as a group and it felt like this was a strong community that would continue to support each other. I am pleased to say that this has lasted and the support system will only grow stronger as time goes on.
Talent is...
Figuring out what you are good at, working out in which roles you can use this, and then actively looking for the right opportunities. This takes dedication, hard work and focus, but in the end I believe this leads to success - that is, talent being used well.
