Interview practice boosts confidence

December 7, 2017

Nana Boakye is a marketing professional who likes to learn, experiment and develop. As a foreign-born national she knows that an appreciation of cultural diversity goes hand-in-hand with a just and equitable society. In her spare time, she is a keen traveller who enjoys discovering hidden gems around the world that are worth the trek.

My journey with Onpartu started...

I came across Onpartu advert for a Social Media Executive on Escape the City website to promote awareness about Onpartu through social channels.

Getting involved meant...

After finding out more about Onpartu’s mission to enable foreign-born women to reach opportunities that match their experience and education, I was instantly compelled to get involved. I wanted to help make a difference in the lives of these women to help them reach their full potential.

My Onpartu role is...

I am responsible for promoting awareness about Onpartu on our social media channels, creating engagement and building Onpartu’s presence. I explore new ways to engage and reach our target audience.

In my day job, I am responsible for ...

I am a Marketing and Bid Executive in a building consultancy. I create bids to win new business contracts, and promote business development for the company. I work alongside our directors to bring in new work streams via bid management from identifying opportunities, writing and producing submissions, through to tracking and evaluating outcomes. I deliver high profile tasks such as marketing, exhibition and corporate events, and internal communications.

Volunteering with Onpartu provides...

We have all come together for a common cause and everyone is willing to get their hands dirty and get stuck in. Volunteering with Onpartu provides me with an outlet for creativity, innovation and has enabled me to learn so much about social media and social enterprises.

My biggest learning so far...

There is a real need for organisations like Onpartu, there are many people who have relocated to the UK with qualifications from their home country but yet they are stuck doing unfulfilling jobs making their skills and qualifications go underutilised. I get a real sense of satisfaction helping and spreading awareness that these ladies can attain the career that they aspire for.

My most memorable Onpartu moment...

Attending an Onpartu workshop about building confidence and interview skills. It really opened my mind to how confidence plays a big part in an interview situation and how you come across. Some of the ladies started the workshop a little timid, but by the end of the day their confidence had increased, and you could see their faces relaxed and that they were more assured. It was good to see the Onpartners build the skills through the role plays with the mentors, and how proud they were at the end.

Talent is...

The combination of determination and hard work to nurture a skill to the very best it can be. I believe natural skill alone cannot create talent; you need to work and develop it into talent.

Join Onpartu because...

It is a great fun and you will learn so much alongside the other friendly volunteers. It is a big extended family where everyone supports one another. You meet lots of people from all walks of life and you become a collaborative force working towards a common goal.
